With Thanksgiving approaching, they are talking in school a lot about what they are thankful for, so it's been a good chance to include Greta in my practice. She says she's thankful for her family (YES!!), and her freedom, (somehow I think this may have been prompted at school) and I'm sure that the list will grow between now and next Thursday.
Right now I am just so, so grateful for little hands. Sticky at times, and hardly ever where they are supposed to be, they are also such great reminders about how fast things change. Our dining room table is littered with traced and cut out hands in various stages of turkeyhood, and it's hard for me to believe how big Greta's hands have gotten so quickly. When I have Greta's hand in one of mine, and Simon's in the other, I am so thankful for the physical connection that keeps them close and safe, even if they are a little sticky.
I think it is time for me to take some time and think about all I am thankful for. Today in the teacher's room I was reminded of the day Greta left me the message of "hi"'s and how wonderful that felt. And then that reminded me of the day Simon left me a "hello auntie" message. I, too, am thankful for your beautiful children and the reminder (through your writings) to find gratitude in my own life.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is hard to see the little things (like banana breath, shy grins, and drumming on trays) and be thankful for them and it is much easier to stay negative. Thanks for all of your support, listening ears, and beautiful pictures/writings.
I am thankful for the tremendous gift of reconnecting with my long time (like really long!) friend and get this.... now... neighbor! I'm so grateful for your friendship and it feels pretty great to be back in step. If only I had a football phone to call Anne Murray on... "Oh my papa" then you'd really know I meant it.
ReplyDeletei am thankful i finally figured out how to post a comment!
